A strict lockdown has been imposed throughout Hai Duong Province effective 0001 Feb. 16 through at least March 2 in response to COVID-19 activity. Under the new directive, residents of the province are required to remain inside their homes unless leaving for essential purposes, such as purchasing food or seeking medical care. Nonessential passenger transport is banned throughout the province. Authorities will allow and facilitate the movement of essential supplies. Outdoor gatherings of more than two persons are prohibited. All nonessential businesses in Hai Duong Province are closed. Officials had previously imposed strict movement controls in Chi Linh from late January but expanded the measures to cover the entire province after discovering dozens of additional COVID-19 cases. Restrictions could be extended in duration or introduced to areas outside of Hai Duong Province in the coming days.
Officials have set up screening checkpoints on roads throughout Hai Duong Province. Additional security personnel will likely remain deployed in the province to enforce movement and gathering restrictions. Authorities will probably maintain a heightened security posture for the duration of the restrictions. Severe business and transport disruptions are likely for the duration of the movement controls.
