Costa Rica: Union members to protest in San Jose March 23

Union workers to march to the Legislative Assembly in San Jose, Costa Rica, from 09:00 March 23. Tight security, disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

Workers affiliated with the National Association of Public and Private Sector Employees (ANEP) plan to march from Parque de la Merced to the Legislative Assembly in San Jose starting at 09:00 March 23. The action is to denounce a bill being discussed in the legislature, which workers believe will adversely affect the municipal system. The march could draw hundreds of people.

Police will probably deploy to monitor the march and secure the assembly building. Major violence is unlikely; however, the march will likely cause localized traffic disruptions in central parts of the city.
