Hungary extends COVID-19-related restrictions through at least March 29. Entry restrictions remain in place.
Event
Authorities in Hungary have extended COVID-19 restrictions, due to expire March 22, through at least March 29. Restrictions that remain in place include the following:
Domestic Restrictions:
All nonessential businesses will be closed. However, supermarkets, pharmacies, and gas stations will remain open.
All schools will remain closed until at least April 7.
A nationwide 20:00-05:00 curfew remains in place, and all nonessential movement is prohibited during these hours.
Commuters are permitted to travel to work, even during curfew hours, provided they have the necessary documentation.
Restaurants and cafes are limited to delivery services only.
All leisure facilities and recreational activities, including restaurants, are closed until further notice.
All events and official gatherings are prohibited; however, private family events are permitted with no more than 10 people.
Weddings or civil events may take place with only immediate family members.
Funerals are limited to 50 attendees.
Facemasks are mandatory on public transport and in enclosed public spaces.
International Entry Restrictions
Hungary has recently eased international entry restrictions for certain business travelers. More specifically, Hungarian nationals returning from business trips in countries that are members of the EU, the European Economic Area (EEA), or are candidates for EU accession, as well as the UK, US, Bahrein, UAE, India, Indonesia, Israel, Japan, China, South Korea, Russia, Singapore, Turkey, and Ukraine, may now enter Hungary without restrictions; these travelers are no longer subject to self-isolation upon arrival.
Other travelers, residents or citizens, are required to quarantine at their locations upon arrival for 10 days. If travelers do not have a residential address, they will need to quarantine at a government-designated facility for 10 days. Travelers may leave quarantine early if two negative COVID-19 tests are presented in the first five days.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
Advice
Follow all official instructions. Abide by national health and safety measures. Reconfirm all travel arrangements. Consider delaying traveling if experiencing symptoms associated with COVID-19, as they may prompt increased scrutiny and delays. Liaise with trusted contacts for further updates and guidance. Maintain contact with your diplomatic representation. Ensure contingency plans account for further disruptive measures or extensions of current restrictions.
