Belize: Unionized workers to block roads and hold protest marches nationwide April 19-20

The Public Service Union of Belize announced it would hold protests nationwide April 19-20. Workers plan to use their vehicles to block roads and highways April 19, and hold street marches April 20. The union has not released a list of protest locations, and the start times of the actions on both days are not clear. The union is demanding that the government rescind a plan to cut the salaries of public employees and pass anti-corruption legislation.

Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor any protests that materialize, and may disperse any protests that become overly disruptive. Transport disruptions are possible throughout the country.
