Belize: Unions plan protests in Belmopan April 22

Multiple unions have called for demonstrations in Belmopan April 22, primarily against government-mandated salary cuts. Participants intend to block access and interrupt traffic on main highways around Belmopan. In addition, health sector staff will participate in a rally at Independence Plaza beginning 09:00.

Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor all large gatherings. Security forces may seek to disperse protesters who gather without permission, attempt to block roads, or disobey authorities' orders to disband. The protests have the potential to be highly disruptive.
