Cambodia: Authorities enacting restrictions in Preah Sihanouk Province through May 6 due to COVID-19 /update 2

Officials are implementing restrictions in Preah Sihanouk Province through May 6 to stem the spread of COVID-19. Nonessential travel in and out of the locality is banned, except in emergency situations, among others. Authorities are also suspending nonessential businesses. Only essential businesses, such as medical facilities and food establishments, can continue operating on-site. Gatherings are banned, except for those among members of the same household, government events aimed at stemming the spread of COVID-19, and funerals permitted by the authorities.

Stricter measures are in place in some localities with higher COVID-19 activity. Authorities have declared five villages in Sangkat 4 as red zones through May 5. People must remain at their residences, except when seeking medical assistance and performing official work. Most businesses, including markets and food establishments, are closed. Only specific facilities, like firefighting service and medical facilities, can remain open.

Authorities will likely enforce tight security measures, especially in the surrounding waters and the coastal areas, through May 6. Severe transport and business disruptions are likely.

Strictly heed the instructions of authorities. Avoid all nonessential operations in areas impacted by restrictions. Confirm appointments. Remain cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement officers. Emphasize basic health precautions, especially frequent handwashing with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. Practice good coughing/sneezing etiquette (i.e., covering coughs and sneezes with disposable tissue, maintaining distance from others, and washing hands).
