Honduras: Various groups to rally in observance of International Workers' Day nationwide May 1

Nationwide demonstrations expected in Honduras in observance of International Workers' Day May 1. Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution.

Warning

Event

Activists have announced they will hold demonstrations across Honduras May 1 to mark International Workers' Day. A large demonstration is slated to be held in Tegucigalpa, where labor unions have called on supporters to gather in Barrio la Granja at 07:00 and march to Parque Central; organizers did not immediately release details for associated demonstrations elsewhere in the country. Localized transport disruptions are likely in the vicinity of all demonstrations. While most gatherings are likely to be peaceful, clashes cannot be ruled out, especially if police attempt to disperse demonstrators forcibly.

Advice

Avoid all demonstrations as a precaution. Allow for additional travel time near demonstrations. Do not drive through any roadblocks; wait for police to dismantle them instead. If violence occurs, leave the area immediately and seek shelter in a nongovernmental building.
