Protests by Colombian activists and their supporters have been reported in Madrid, during afternoon hours, May 8. Participants had gathered in the vicinity of Puerta de Alcala before marching to the Puerta de Sol. The event is in solidarity with Colombians protesting against the government of that country and to denounce the alleged violent repression of those protests. Several hundred people are in attendance.
Police are monitoring the event and related security measures will likely prompt localized transport disruptions in affected areas. Current COVID-19 measures in Spain restrict public gatherings; police may attempt to disperse activists if they are deemed to be breaching these restrictions. Significant violence is not likely.
