The epicenter was about 85 km (53 miles) north-northwest of Tocopilla, and 143 km (89 miles) south-southwest of Iquique. The tremor occurred at a depth of approximately 52 km (32 miles) and weak shaking was probably felt throughout parts of the Tarapaca and Antofagasta regions. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties. It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Aftershocks are possible over the coming days.
