Petrochemical sector workers in Iran likely to continue strike through at least end July. Protests, increased security likely.

Workers in the petrochemical sector are likely to maintain a strike nationwide through at least end July to demand higher salaries and improved working conditions. As of June 30, strike activity has affected more than 70 companies across eight provinces. The walkout reportedly began in Bidkhoon, Bushehr Province, June 19.
Striking workers will likely stage protests as part of the action. Demonstrations are will most probably materialize near petrochemical refineries, government buildings, and public squares. Increased security and localized transport disruptions are likely near large protests; isolated skirmishes between security forces and demonstrators cannot be ruled out.
