Opposing groups gathered to hold rival demonstrations outside the Embassy of Cuba, located along Calle Los Leones, in Providencia, Santiago, July 16. Some of the activists reportedly assembled to express their support for the Cuban government, while others gathered to criticize the government and back recent anti-government protests on the island.

Police have deployed to the scene amid skirmishes between the two groups; at least one person has been injured and another arrested. Transport and business disruptions are likely in the affected area over the coming hours. Further clashes cannot be ruled out.
