Warning

Event

Utility disruptions, including power and running water supply, are likely to persist in the coming days after an overnight wind storm July 7-8 affected the capital Banjul and surrounding areas. As of early July 9, the extent of infrastructure damages remains unclear; however, several areas in the western part of the country reportedly remain without electricity or running water. According to local authorities, at least 10 people were killed due to the storm, and more than 1,500 people have been displaced.

Weather conditions are likely to lead to transport disruptions, including street closures, through Banjul and surrounding districts in the coming hours and days.

Advice

Seek updated information on weather and road conditions before driving or routing shipments through areas affected by the storm. During a power outage, conserve batteries and restrict cellphone use to emergencies. For safety reasons, monitor generators while they are operating due to potential fires. Unplug appliances and electronic equipment to protect against surge damage when power resumes. Confirm and stock up on alternative water supplies for business purposes. Water pressure and quality may be poor after normal service resumes daily; consider running taps for several minutes before using water.
