Hungary: Air Traffic Control staff to strike July 27-Aug. 2

Air Traffic Control staff in Hungary to strike July 27-Aug. 2; flight disruptions likely.

Warning

Event

The European Organisation for the Safety of Air Navigation (Eurocontrol) has issued a notice that air traffic control (ATC) staff in Hungary intend to stage industrial action July 27-Aug. 2; the action was previously scheduled for July 24-30. According to the notice, the action will take place between 10:00-15:00 each day.

The action will likely lead to flight disruptions, including delays and cancellations, nationwide. Budapest Airport (BUD) will likely experience the greatest disruption; arrival capacity will be reduced to 15 flights per hour during the strike period each day. Disruptions could extend for several hours beyond 15:00 each day as staff resume their duties and deal with any backlog of flights.

Advice

Contact airlines to confirm flight status if booked to fly via Hungarian airports July 27-Aug. 2. Do not check out of accommodations until onward travel is confirmed. Arrive at the airport early to prevent your seat from being allocated to a standby passenger.
