Emergency services are responding to an explosion and subsequent fire at the Petromidia oil refinery, approximately 20 km (12 miles) north of Constanta, July 2. The cause of the incident, which occurred around 12:00, is unconfirmed; at least two injuries have been reported. The fire is not currently under control and is producing a significant amount of smoke.
Heightened security is likely in the surrounding area; authorities may close roads near the refinery to facilitate the emergency response. Authorities are advising individuals to remain at least 1 km (0.6 miles) away from the incident site and to remain indoors and close all windows. Disruptions are likely to continue through at least July 3.
