Ukraine: Clashes reported during protest in Kyiv July 14
Veterans groups reportedly clash with police during protest at Verkhovna Rada in central Kyiv, Ukraine, July 14. Avoid the area.
Event
Clashes have been reported during a protest by retired security officials outside the Verkhovna Rada (parliament building) on the morning of July 14. The protesters, who are former staff of the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MVD), are demanding reform of their pension entitlement. Veterans’ groups have also warned that they will protest near the Cabinet of Ministers and the Presidential Office on July 14.
Further violence is possible, particularly if protesters attempt to breach police cordons. A heavy security presence will almost certainly remain in the area over the coming hours and localized disruptions are likely to persist. While bystanders are unlikely to be targeted in any clashes, they would face a significant incidental threat.
Advice
Avoid the vicinity of any protests and allow additional time for travel near the Verkhovna Rada and other potential protest sites July 14. Heed instructions from security personnel and leave the area immediately at the first sign of a confrontation.
