Cambodia: Officials extend gathering and business controls in Phnom Penh until Aug. 26 /update 9
Officials extend gathering and business controls in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, until Aug. 26. Overnight curfew remains in place as of Aug. 12.
Event
Officials have extended tighter business and gathering restrictions in Phnom Penh as of Aug. 11. The rules will remain in effect until at least Aug. 26 due to COVID-19 activity. Facemasks are mandatory in public areas. Gatherings of more than 15 people are banned, though there are some exemptions. Schools and some nonessential businesses, like bars, cinemas, museums, and theaters, remain closed. Restaurants must operate according to health protocols.
Authorities have also extended an overnight curfew in Phnom Penh until at least Aug. 19; further extensions are possible. From Aug. 13-19, the curfew is in effect nightly 22:00-03:00. Residents must remain in their homes during the curfew. Exemptions are in place for medical reasons, emergencies, and persons working in other essential fields and industries.
Officials continue to designate red, orange, and yellow zones in specific neighborhoods. Most businesses may operate on-site with health protocols in yellow zones. Residents in areas classified as orange zones must stay at home unless working in essential industries or for emergencies; only essential sectors can operate on-site in these locations. Individuals in red zones cannot leave their residence except for medical emergencies and may need to undergo mandatory COVID-19 testing. Only limited essential services may operate in these areas; the government will provide food and drink to residents in red zones.
Authorities will likely maintain security protocols, such as checkpoints, to enforce restrictions in specific areas, especially within orange and red zones. Commercial disruptions will likely continue in localities where enhanced measures are in effect. Phnom Penh officials may introduce additional curfews and other localized restrictions at short notice.
Advice
