Event
A magnitude-5.0 offshore earthquake occurred southwest of Reykjavik at 10:40 Aug. 1. The epicenter was about 219 km (136 miles) south-southwest of Reykjavík. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 15 km (9 miles), and light shaking was probably felt in parts of southwest Iceland. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake; however, significant damage is unlikely. The event has not prompted any tsunami advisories.

Plan accordingly for aftershocks. Consider vacating multistory buildings if operating in affected areas until authorities confirm their structural integrity.
