Activists from the events industry to protest in several Dutch cities Aug. 21; heightened security, localized disruptions likely.
Event
Activists from the events industry in the Netherlands will stage protests in several cities Aug. 21 to demand the government relax COVID-19 measures currently in place that prohibit music events. All protests will begin at 14:00 and are scheduled to end around 17:00. The following actions are confirmed:
Amsterdam: March from RAI Amsterdam center through to Stadhouderskade and back to RAI Amsterdam.
Eindhoven: Demonstration at Ketelhuisplein.
Groningen: March from Concourslaan through the city center via Grote Markt and back to Concourslaan.
Nijmegen: March from Waalkade to Latensteinweg.
Rotterdam: March from Wilhelminakade to Stadhuisplein.
Utrecth: March from Lepelenburg to Maliesingel.
Attendance will vary by location but could reach into the thousands at larger gatherings.
Additional police will deploy to monitor the actions. Large crowds and associated security measures will likely prompt localized transport disruptions, including possible road closures and movement restrictions. Public transport services may be canceled or diverted. The events are likely to be peaceful, though isolated clashes between police and protesters cannot be ruled out.
Advice
Avoid the protests as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Check for transport disruptions and allow extra time for travel in affected areas Aug. 21.
