Clashes between Al-Shabaab militants and Jubaland security forces have been reported in the vicinity Kismayo, Aug. 18. The exact location is unclear but believed to be approximately 40km (25 miles) from the town. Initial reports indicate that the fighting resulted in casualties, although officials have not released further details on the casualty count. The incident likely follows recent military operations in central and southern regions, including Jubaland, in which 279 Al-Shabaab militants were reportedly killed by Somali forces.
