Water outage to affect Wattala suburb of northern Colombo, Sri Lanka, 10:00 Aug. 3-10:00 Aug. 4. Commercial disruptions possible.
Event
Authorities plan to suspend water supply to parts of Wattala area of northern Colombo 10:00 Aug. 3-10:00 Aug. 4 due to upgrade works on the pipeline system. The disruptions will affect Alwis Town, Galagahaduwa, Kerawalapitiya, Mabola, and Welikadamulla areas, and Hendala, Maradana, and Puwakwatta roads.
While residents have relied on private water suppliers during previous water shortages, such services may be affected due to measures related to COVID-19 controls. Some business disruptions are possible, especially for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water to maintain operations. Residents may experience lingering disruptions, such as low-pressure supply, even after supplies normalize.
Advice
Stock up on drinking water in advance. Confirm alternative water supplies for business operations. Pressure and water quality may be poor after service resumes; run taps for several minutes before using water. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes.
