Assailants killed seven individuals and wounded 16 others Aug. 5-6 amid an armed attack in the village of Habouba, South Darfur State; the exact location of the village is unclear. The attack, which reportedly involved approximately 200 armed individuals, was carried out by an unidentified group. However, the General Coordination Committee for Refugees and IDPs Camps in Sudan has accused the Janjaweed, a militia group operating in the wider Darfur region, of perpetrating the violence. The reason for the clashes was not immediately clear, but could be over access to resources.
