Warning

Event

Authorities are enforcing enhanced measures in Siem Reap Province as of Sept. 13 to curb the spread of COVID-19. Officials are classifying Siem Reap town as an orange zone through Sept. 18, which is the second-highest risk level on a three-tier classification system. Residents may not leave their homes except for essential reasons, such as going to receive a COVID-19 test or vaccination. Some essential businesses may remain open but must operate with reduced staff. Those traveling to work must obtain a permit from the Executive Committee to Manage and Lead to Implementation of the Lockdown as well as carry identification documents and an employment certificate.

Provincial authorities are enforcing a 21:00-03:00 nightly curfew through Sept. 22. Essential services, including goods transport, are exempt from the curfew. Several establishments must remain closed, including nightclubs, casinos, museums, cinemas, and gyms. Officials are banning gatherings with more than 10 people; individuals must receive official permission to hold gatherings with more than 10 people.

Advice

Strictly heed the instructions of authorities. Avoid all nonessential operations in areas impacted by restrictions. Confirm appointments. Remain cooperative if approached and questioned by law enforcement officers. Emphasize basic health precautions, especially frequent handwashing with soap and water, or an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are unavailable. Practice good coughing/sneezing etiquette (i.e., covering coughs and sneezes with disposable tissue, maintaining distance from others, and washing hands). There is no evidence that the influenza vaccine, antibiotics, or antiviral medications will prevent this disease, highlighting the importance of diligent basic health precautions.
