Gabon: Education employees to strike indefinitely nationwide from Sept. 27, protest in Libreville Sept. 27.
Education employees plan indefinite nationwide strike in Gabon from Sept. 27, rally in Libreville from 10:00 Sept. 27.
Event
The Convention Nationale des Syndicats du Secteur Education (Conasysed), a coalition of unions representing employees of the education sector, has called for an indefinite strike from Sept. 27. Conasysed representatives also called on teachers to gather for a rally from 10:00 Sept. 27 at the Awendje stadium in Libreville. The work stoppage aims to denounce the deteriorating conditions of the school system.
Strike participants could also form picket lines at educational facilities. Any gatherings are likely to be peaceful; however, low-level scuffles are possible if protesters attempt to breach police cordons. Increased absenteeism is possible among employees who are parents of school-aged children during the walkout.
Advice
Monitor developments, avoid all large public gatherings as a precaution. Anticipate localized transport disruptions near demonstration sites.
