Sudan: Additional protests are possible in Khartoum through early October following disruptive unrest Sept. 23
Further protests are possible in Khartoum, Sudan, through early October following unrest Sept. 23. Avoid all demonstrations.
Event
Additional protests are possible in Khartoum through early October following demonstrations in the city Sept. 23. Protests took place in Siteen, on Alharqi Street, in the Mahat 7 area of Sahafa, and near Jackson Square to denounce the Sept. 21 coup attempt and demand the removal of the transitional government. Some of the demonstrators reportedly clashed with security officers and burned a police armored vehicle near Jackson Square.
Security forces will almost certainly deploy to monitor any further related gatherings. Security personnel will likely use force to disperse any unruly crowds that materialize. Road freight and business disruptions are possible near any demonstrations that occur. Officials could also impose an overnight curfew if the situation deteriorates.
Advice
As a precaution, avoid all demonstrations that may materialize, as well as potential protest sites and locations where security forces appear to be assembling through at least early October. Use alternative routes to avoid rally venues; allow additional time to reach destinations.
