Sudan: Heavy military deployment in Khartoum, Sudan, following failed coup early Sept. 21 /update 1
Heavy military deployment in Khartoum, Sudan, following reported failed coup early Sept. 21.
Event
Heavy military deployment is reportedly underway in Khartoum early Sept. 21, after a group of security officers attempted a coup and failed. Reports indicate that the perpetrators were attempting to take over the state radio building in Omdurman. Initial reports suggest that at least 40 officers have been arrested.
The military government will almost certainly continue to deploy personnel until the situation stabilize. Tight security is likely at many government buildings and near critical infrastructure nationwide.
Advice
Shelter in place. Strictly avoid government buildings, security installations, and large concentrations of police or soldiers. Carry identification and travel documents at all times, and be prepared to produce them if stopped at a security checkpoint.
