Heightened security likely in Masaka, Lwengo, Rakai, Bukomansimbi districts, Central Region, Uganda through September following attacks.

Officials announced the deployment of additional troops to Bukomansimbi, Lwengo, Masaka, and Rakai districts in Central Region through the end of September to deter any potential attack following recent fatal incidents targeting residents there. Authorities confirmed that unknown machete-wielding assailants killed at least 28 people since the end of July in various districts, including, Bukomansimbi, Kyotera, Lwengo, Masaka, Rakai, and Sembabule.
The motive for the attacks remains unclear, there have been no claims of responsibility. Authorities investigate the killings as a terror-related case and claimed that 64 individuals have already been arrested.
Transport disruptions such as checkpoints are likely. Additional attacks targeting locals remain possible.
