Ukraine: Activists plan to demonstrate in central Kyiv, Dnipro, and Cherkasy Sept. 18 to denounce COVID-19-related restrictions
Activists to protest in Kyiv, Dnipro, and Cherkasy, Ukraine, Sept. 18 to denounce COVID-19-related restrictions; disruptions likely.
Event
Activists from around Europe plan to demonstrate in central Kyiv Sept. 18 to denounce government restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Participants will rally at Mykhailivs'ka Square from 12:00. Elsewhere in Ukraine, related smaller rallies will also take place at European Square in Dnipro and Soborna Square in Cherkasy; both events will start at 12:00.
Police will almost certainly deploy to monitor the demonstrations and associated security measures will likely prompt localized transport disruptions. Isolated clashes between police and demonstrators are possible, particularly if the latter become disruptive or attempt to breach security cordons.
Advice
Avoid all demonstrations as a routine security precaution and to mitigate associated disruptions. Heed instructions from security services and leave the area at the first sign of a confrontation. Allow extra time for travel in affected areas of Kyiv, Dnipro, and Cherkasy the afternoon of Sept. 18.
