Bahrain: Activists likely to protest in Nuwaidrat from 15:30 Oct. 25
Opposition activists are likely to protest in Nuwaidrat, Bahrain, from 15:30 Oct. 25. Violence is possible; avoid all protests.
Event
Protests are likely to occur in the vicinity of Sheikh Khalaf Al Asfoor Grand Mosque, Nuwaidrat, from 15:30 Oct. 25. The potential for protests comes amid calls for a large-scale funeral procession commemorating the recent death of a political prisoner while in detention. Other unannounced protests could materialize at other locations and times, mainly within predominantly Shi'a towns on the outskirts of Manama.
Clashes between protesters and security forces are possible should any protest materialize. Police often restrict access to demonstrations, and localized traffic disruptions are possible near rallies. In past protests, demonstrators have burned tires and, in certain instances, targeted security forces with Molotov cocktails or crude explosive devices. Police may forcibly disperse protesters; officers could use tear gas, stun grenades, and possibly live ammunition to disperse demonstrators.
Advice
Avoid the area due to the potential for violence; if a related gathering materializes near you, leave the area immediately. Do not take photographs. Allow extra time if driving near the affected area; consider planning alternative routes around the demonstration site.
