Informational

Event

The Water Authority of Fiji (WAF) has warned that unplanned water supply disruptions are affecting parts of Suva as of Oct. 11. Rain-related disruptions at the Tamavua Water Treatment Plant continue to cause outages and shortages in Greater Tamavua since Oct. 5; affected locations include Colo-i-Suva, Delainavesi, Dokanaisuva, Khalsa Road, Nailuva, Namadi Heights, Princes Road, Rewa Street, Sakoca, Tacirua Heights, and Togalevu. Pipeline problems are also interrupting water supply in Kabote, Manulevu, Reba Circle, Soqe, and Visako Oct. 11. WAF has not specified when repair works will finish.

Officials have advised those in affected areas to conserve water; WAF has advised those in Greater Tamavua to store a three-day supply of water. The WAF will provide water trucks to the affected areas upon request via their hotline 1507. Business disruptions are possible, especially for companies that rely on large quantities of municipal water to maintain operations.

Advice

Minimize nonessential use of water during the outage. Water quality after service resumes may be poor; run taps for several minutes. Use only bottled water from reputable suppliers for drinking and hygienic purposes.
