Guatemala: Nationwide demonstrations, Nov. 15-16
CODECA calls for nationwide protests in Guatemala from 06:00 Nov. 15-16. Roadblocks are likely in many areas. Avoid all protests.
Event
The Farmer Development Committee (Comite de Desarrollo Campesino, CODECA) has called for nationwide protests from 06:00 Nov. 15-16 to denounce government corruption and raise socio-economic concerns. They are also demanding that the State of Siege in El Estor, Izabal Department, be lifted. CODECA plans to protest on roadways across the country. Dozens to a few hundred people may participate at each gathering.
Officials will likely deploy security personnel to monitor the gatherings. Protests are likely to result in short-term localized ground travel delays, including on alternative road routes. Confrontations between security personnel and protesters are possible.
Advice
Avoid all protests and related events as a precaution. Do not attempt to cross a roadblock; utilize alternative routes or wait for the police to reopen affected roads. Confirm business appointments in advance. Allow additional time to reach your destination if operating in Guatemala Nov. 15-16.
