Belgium: Activists plan to demonstrate at Mont des Arts in Brussels Dec. 26

Members of the arts and entertainment industry in Brussels plan to gather at the Mont des Art from 14:00 Dec. 26. The action is to protest the government's decision to shut cultural venues, including cinemas and theaters, over concerns of the COVID-19 Omicron variant. Dozens to several hundred people may participate in the demonstration.

Heightened security, as well as localized business and transport disruptions, are likely through the afternoon of Dec. 26. While the gathering will probably pass peacefully, minor skirmishes between police and protesters remain possible.
