Thousands of activists have gathered in central Brussels Dec. 5 to denounce COVID-19 restrictions. The action is prompting significant disruptions in downtown Brussels; latest reports indicate police are using teargas and water cannon to disperse the protesters. Police estimate approximately 8,000 people are at the protest. Police have closed numerous roads and tunnels to facilitate the gathering, including Rogier, Madou, and Arts-Loi tunnels. Disruptions are also being reported on the R20 inner ring road and Rue de la Loi in the vicinity of the European Quarter.

Residual disruptions are likely after the gathering concludes. Further clashes between police and protesters are possible if protesters refuse orders to disperse.
