Further militia deployments possible in Tripoli, Libya, Dec. 16, following overnight incidents near key government buildings.

Further militia deployments and mobilizations are possible in Tripoli, Dec. 16. Overnight Dec. 15/16, armed groups reportedly surrounded the prime minister's office. Militia deployments were also reported near the Presidential Council and Ministry of Defence. The deployments were reportedly in response to the dismissal of Major General Abdul Bassit Marwan earlier Dec. 15 and to demand that presidential elections, set for Dec. 24, not take place. There have been no reports of clashes.
Heightened security measures, including additional checkpoints along major routes, are possible through Dec. 16 in response to events overnight. Should further militia actions be taken, confrontations between opposing groups remain possible. Disruptions to state operations are possible in response to the militia deployments.
