The opposition Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna party plans to protest across multiple cities Dec. 24 in Sri Lanka against the rising cost of living. Organizers have announced gatherings at Akuressa, Kurunegala, Matara, and Rikillagaskada from 10:00; Trincomalee from 11:00; Pundaluoya from 14:00; Badulla Bus Station from 15:00; Galle Bus Station from 15:30; Chilaw, Kalutara, Panadura, and Puttalam from 16:00; as well as Kaduruwela and Polonnaruwa from 17:30. The protests will likely take place outside government buildings and at prominent intersections and parks in urban centers. Associated rallies could also occur in Colombo; possible action sites in the capital include Presidential Secretariat, Fort Railway Station, and Hyde Park. Dozens to hundreds of people may participate in any rally.
