Unionized workers employed by the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) and Ceylon Petroleum Corporation (CPC) are protesting outside Fort Railway Station in the Fort area of Colombo Dec. 8. Several dozen workers are denouncing the government’s decision to transfer shares from the Yugadanavi Power Plant to a US company. Protesters are partially blocking traffic on nearby roads.
Authorities will likely monitor the protest and may try to disperse the gathering. Skirmishes between protesters and police are possible. Localized transport disruptions are likely until the protest concludes.
