Tribal fighting in West Darfur State, Sudan Dec. 5 results in dozens of casualties.

Clashes between Arabs and non-Arabs in the Kirainik area of West Darfur State left up to 30 people dead and around 40 others wounded, Dec. 5. The fighting reportedly broke out after members of the Arab Janjaweed armed militia attacked and burned an internally displaced people camp (IDPs) and the market of Kirainik following a dispute between a businessman and a customer in the area a day prior.
Increased security measures are likely in the impacted areas in the coming days. Further violence can not be discounted and could spread across the state. Should any violence occur, officials could impose movement restrictive measures, including curfews.

Consider deferring nonessential travel to the impact area until the situation stabilizes. Heed the directives of the local security forces. Avoid travel at night. Maintain contact with your diplomatic mission.
