Unidentified assailants killed a police officer at the Maroon quarters in Soroti, Soroti District, Eastern Region, at around 19:00 Nov. 30. The incident occurred nearby the residence of a judge the officer was guarding. However, the identity and motive of the attackers remain unclear. Authorities believe the attack was likely a targeted murder. Police are currently conducting a manhunt operation.

A heavy security presence is likely in the vicinity of Soroti over the coming days; the search area is likely to be widened the longer the search goes on. Increased security measures such as checkpoints may prompt localized disruptions in the affected area.
