Power outages are likely in areas of Phnom Penh through Jan. 9. Cambodian electricity company Electricite du Cambodge (EDC) has announced maintenance works in several areas in the coming days and has stated that power disruptions are probable. Areas where outages may occur include Khan Chroy Changvar, Khan Po Sen Chey and Khan Sen Sok,

Disruptions to business and communications, including cellular and mobile services, may occur. Ground traffic disruptions are possible in areas experiencing power disruptions due to malfunctioning traffic signals. Trains may experience delays if outages impact signaling equipment or overhead wires. Power outages could result in the temporary unavailability of essential services such as ATMs and filling stations. Blackouts could adversely affect security protocols, including alarm systems and electronic fences; opportunistic criminal activity could increase during electricity outages. Locals may stage protests in the event of prolonged outages.
