Authorities are likely to maintain heightened security measures in Khartoum and neighboring Omdurman over the coming days following deadly clashes between anti-government demonstrators and security forces Jan. 2. Security forces reportedly killed at least two people in the unrest. Authorities have also interrupted mobile and internet services and erected roadblocks along key bridges and roads in and around Khartoum and Omdurman. Further protests in reaction to the violence cannot be ruled out.
