Sudan: Opposition cancels Jan. 12 demonstrations in Khartoum, postpone to Jan. 13 /update 1

The Resistance Committees' opposition activists have canceled an anti-military protest scheduled in Khartoum Jan. 12 and postponed it to Jan. 13. The Sudanese Professional Association (SPA) has not updated on the status of the scheduled Jan. 12 protests; therefore, protests remain possible.

The precise times and locations for the Jan. 13 protest have not been announced; however, gatherings are highly likely on major thoroughfares and near government buildings, including the Presidential Palace. Protests in other major cities, including Omdurman and Port Sudan, are also possible.

During protest periods, security forces will almost certainly heighten security along key thoroughfares and near government buildings. Bridges, particularly those in the Khartoum area, will likely be closed to prevent protesters from gathering. Protesters may erect roadblocks and clash with the security forces.
