Authorities in Uganda easing select COVID-19 domestic measures from Jan. 3. Curfew to be lifted in the coming weeks.
Event
Authorities have eased select COVID-19 domestic measures from Jan. 3. Public transportation is operating at full capacity and only accessible to vaccinated people, while schools will reopen from Jan. 10. Officials announced that events such as concerts, and places such as bars and nightclubs, will be permitted to reopen two weeks later, when the 19:00-05:30 curfew will also be lifted, except for Boda-Bodas (motorcycle taxis).
Domestic Measures
The following measures remain in effect as of Jan. 3:
A nationwide 19:00-05:30 curfew is in place. Only essential workers and authorized persons are allowed to move during the curfew hours.
Bars, nightclubs, and cinemas remain closed and other entertainment activities like concerts are prohibited until more people are vaccinated.
Social events, including weddings and funerals, can resume with a maximum attendance of 200 people and under strict health protocols in place; places of worship can also reopen at reduced capacity outside curfew hours.
Select establishments, including gyms and casinos, can also operate until 18:00.
Boda-Bodas (motorcycle taxis) must stop operating by 18:00.
Travel Restrictions
All inbound travelers must provide a negative PCR test taken no more than 72 hours before travel to Uganda and fill an online Health Surveillance form accessible here. Travelers must also pay USD 30 online here 24 hours before arrival in order to carry out a mandatory test upon entry.
A negative PCR test certificate issued no more than 72 hours before travel remains necessary for departure from Uganda, except for those transiting within the airport. Those allowed to cross land borders will be required to abide by the requirements above.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice, depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
