Transport disruptions occurring in Cartagena, Colombia, Feb. 28 due to protests. Increased security likely.

Warning

Event

Demonstrators are blocking traffic in multiple areas of Cartagena Feb. 28. Traffic disruptions along sections of Avenida Pedro de Heredia, the city's main avenue, have been reported, especially between Bomba del Amparo and the India Catalina Monument. Most demonstrators have gathered around Bomba del Amparo; however, reports indicate that protests are also taking place in other areas of the city, including Rompoy de El Pozon, Terminal de Transportes, Bomba El Gallo, and Ronda Real. A few minor confrontations between police and protesters have taken place early Feb. 28.

Heightened security and localized business and transport disruptions are likely near all protest sites. Further confrontations between protesters and the security forces are possible if demonstrators are overly disruptive, ignore police orders to disperse, or engage in acts of public violence.

Advice

Avoid all protests as a standard precaution Feb. 28. Plan for short-term ground travel delays near protest sites and seek alternative routes before departure. Heed the instructions of local officials.
