Belize: Authorities update COVID-19-related domestic measures and international travel restrictions as of March 9 /update 36
Belize updates COVID-19-related domestic measures and international travel restrictions as of March 9.
Event
Authorities in Belize are enforcing updated COVID-19-related restrictions as of March 9. The revised measures include an increase in capacity limits for most indoor events. A curfew is also no longer in place. All individuals entering the country can present a negative PCR test result taken within 72 hours before arrival, down from 96 hours previously. International travelers no longer need reservations for a Gold Standard-certified lodging establishment.
Domestic Measures
All persons aged six and older must wear facemasks in most public indoor spaces.
Social events, weddings, funerals, and religious services are limited to 75 percent of capacity, and all attendees must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. Bars, rum shops, and nightclubs must remain closed. Casinos may open to vaccinated patrons. Restaurants and similar establishments may open for in-person services but must operate by reservation only and are limited to 75 percent capacity. All businesses are required to implement social distancing measures.
International Travel Restrictions
All persons entering the country must provide authorities with proof of immunization, negative results from a PCR test taken within 72 hours before arrival, or negative results from an antigen test taken within 48 hours before arrival. Persons who cannot meet these requirements must undergo COVID-19 testing upon arrival; authorities may deny entry to foreign nationals who refuse the test. Persons who test positive for COVID-19 upon entry must quarantine at a government facility at their own expense.
Nonresident foreigners whose stay in Belize exceeds one day must purchase travel insurance. Cruise ship passengers and crew are exempt from this requirement.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks. Officials may enforce targeted, localized measures in villages and towns with high disease activity.
