Hungary: Intercity train drivers in Budapest to embark on indefinite strike action from March 10

Train drivers in Budapest affiliated with the Train Drivers' Union will embark on strike action for an indefinite period starting March 10. The strike will initially only impact intercity services from Budapest; services to the cities of Cegled, Gyor, and Szekesfehervar will be reduced by 50 percent March 10. From March 11 onwards, train drivers in Budapest will observe strike action 09:00-15:00 daily until the strike is lifted. The action is expected to affect freight and commuter lines. Organizers have guaranteed international services for refugees from Ukraine will not be affected.

The strike will likely prompt crowding on available services and increased demand for alternative public transport options. Disruptions to freight are likely.
