A magnitude-5.5 earthquake occurred in northern Qinghai Province at around 09:26 CST April 15. The epicenter was about 174 km (108 miles) southwest of Jiuquan, Gansu Province. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 12 km (7 miles). Moderate shaking was probably felt near the epicenter, while weak-to-light shaking likely occurred across parts of northern Qinghai and western Gansu provinces. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake. Significant damage is unlikely; however, some damage to infrastructure is possible near the epicenter.
