China: Military drills to take place in the Bohai Sea near Dalian, Liaoning Province, and Qinghuangdao, Hebei Province, from April 14

China to hold military drills in the Bohai Sea from 08:00 April 14. Regional flight, maritime delays possible. Confirm transport.

Informational

Event

The Chinese military will hold drills in the Bohai Sea, off the east coast of Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, and south coast of Dalian, Liaoning Province, from April 14. Authorities have established the following exclusion areas to facilitate the exercises:

  • Approximately 13 km (8 miles) south of Dalian and extends about 37 km (23 miles) southwestward from 08:00 April 14 to 18:00 April 15.

  • Around 30 km (19 miles) east of Qinhuangdao, Hebei Province, extending about 52 km (32 miles) eastward from 12:00 April 14 to 00:00 April 28.

The Maritime Safety Administration (MSA) has banned civilian vessels from entering the area for the duration of the exercises. It is unclear if the MSA notification applies to civilian aircraft.

The drills and associated exclusion zone may prompt minor regional maritime shipping delays. The exercises may restrict shipping traffic in waterways to ports in Dalian and Qinhuangdao. Flight delays cannot be ruled out at airports in the region, especially Dalian Zhoushuizi International Airport (DLC) and Qinhuangdao Beidaihe Airport (BPE) and, potentially, offshore helicopter services.

Advice

Plan for potential shipping congestion and delays. If possible, consider alternative transport for time-sensitive cargo. Confirm flights if traveling through DLC and BPE as a precaution.
