Fiji: Government to host state visit for Governor-General of Australia April 25-29

Fiji to host state visit for Governor-General of Australia April 25-29. Increased security, localized transport disruptions likely.

Informational

Event

Fiji will host Governor-General David Hurley from Australia for a state visit April 25-29. His Excellency will likely arrive Nausori International Airport (SUV) in Suva the evening of April 25. The governor-general will visit several locations in Suva, including the Stanley Brown naval base, National War Memorial, National Disaster Management Office, and Pacific Community office, April 26-27. On April 28, President Wiliame Katonivere will travel with Hurley to Northern Division to open a kindergarten in Maramarua District. The leader will likely depart the country late April 28 or the morning of April 29 from SUV.

Increased security is highly likely near sites hosting official events on the governor-general's itinerary. Tight security is almost certain near SUV as Hurley arrives and departs the country; similar conditions are likely at Labasa Airport (LBS) April 28. Police plan to temporarily block roads near event sites; officers have warned that roadblocks and traffic diversions will impact parts of Suva and Labasa to facilitate Hurley's motorcade. Localized transport disruptions are likely.

Advice

If operating in Suva or Labasa, consider avoiding event venues if not attending. Allow additional time for transport through the morning of April 29. Follow all instructions from security personnel.
