Kuwait: Authorities to lift COVID-19 measures from May 1 /update 57
Kuwait to remove COVID-19 restrictions as of May 1. Arrivals no longer need to provide PCR tests.
Event
The Kuwaiti government has announced that it will lift COVID-19 restrictions beginning May 1. Travelers to the country will no longer need to take a PCR test or provide proof of vaccination. The facemask mandate has also been removed; however, individuals showing symptoms of the disease will need to wear one. All public institutions and places can be accessed regardless of one's COVID-19 vaccination status and PCR tests are no longer a requirement at workplaces and educational institutions.
Individuals who have come into contact with people with COVID-19 will only have to take a PCR test within 14 days of exposure and wear a facemask. In the event that individuals contract COVID-19, they will be required to quarantine at home for five days and wear a facemask for another five days.
Domestic Measures
Bans on persons attending in-person events and the enforcement of social distancing mandates have been lifted. Unvaccinated persons can now enter malls and cinemas. Wearing a protective mask is no longer mandatory in indoor or outdoor spaces.
International Travel Restrictions
Authorities will issue all types of visas to fully inoculated persons and those who are unvaccinated beginning May 1.
Travel measures that will remain in place through April include:
Travelers must download and register with the "Shlonik" and "Kuwait Mosafer" applications before traveling.
Travelers who have received three shots of a COVID-19 vaccine approved by Kuwaiti authorities do not have to undergo pre-departure and post-arrival PCR testing or observe home quarantine guidelines.
Travelers who have only received two shots of a COVID-19 vaccine will be exempt from undergoing a pre-departure PCR test but will be required to quarantine for seven days upon arriving in Kuwait. The seven-day period can end at any given time if a negative PCR test result is presented.
Unvaccinated travelers (i.e., those who have not received two shots of a government-approved vaccine, or those who received two doses more than nine months ago) need to submit a negative PCR test certificate conducted within 72 hours before departure, quarantine for seven days, and undergo an additional PCR test at the end of their quarantine period.
Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
