Flight disruptions will likely continue at Warsaw Chopin Airport (WAW) through at least the end of April 21 after officials suspended all operations at the facility for about two hours amid reports of a bomb threat against an inbound flight. The threat appears to have targeted Emirates (EK) flight EK-177, which landed at WAW at approximately 19:40 and taxied to a remote part of the airport, where emergency services responded to the aircraft. Unconfirmed reports indicated that another bomb threat had occurred earlier the same day and targeted a LOT Airlines (LO) flight from WAW to Prague in the Czech Republic; that flight landed safely.
Flight operations resumed at WAW at approximately 21:45. Several flights diverted to alternate airports during the closure. Residual disruptions will probably linger well into the evening, and potentially into the early hours of April 22 as carriers reposition aircraft and work through their passenger backlogs. Travelers will likely encounter long lines at check-in and customer service desks, as well as at security checkpoints.
