Portugal: Authorities update COVID-19 international travel restrictions as of April 26 /update 65

Event

Portuguese authorities are updating the international travel restrictions imposed to combat the spread of COVID-19 as of April 26. Travelers are no longer required to submit a passenger locator form before departure. In addition, passengers under the age of 12 are now exempt from providing any COVID-19 documentation including tests or proof of vaccination or recovery. Furthermore, there are no COVID-19-related entry restrictions for travelers arriving in Madeira.

Domestic Measures
Most domestic COVID-19 measures are lifted. Facemasks remain mandatory in enclosed public spaces, healthcare facilities, and on public transport.

International Travel Restriction
Nonessential travel is permitted from the EU member nations and Schengen Area associated states, as well as a limited number of additional countries including Angola, Bahrain, Brazil, Canada, Cape Verde, Chile, China, Colombia, Guinea-Bissau, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kuwait, Macao, Mozambique, Peru, Rwanda, Sao Tome and Principe, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Taiwan, UAE, UK, Uruguay, and the US. Entry is also permitted for all travelers in possession of a vaccination or recovery certificate recognized by EU authorities. Travel in other circumstances remains prohibited except in limited essential cases, including EU citizens and residents returning home, reuniting with family, and commuting for essential work or study purposes. All permitted travelers must also possess one of the following:

• A valid vaccination certificate

• A recovery certificate linked to the EU Digital COVID Certificate gateway

• A negative PCR test taken in the 72 hours prior to boarding transport

• A negative rapid antigen test taken in the 24 hours prior to boarding transport

Authorities could reimpose, extend, further ease, or otherwise amend any restrictions with little-to-no notice depending on disease activity over the coming weeks.
